5 Years in Missions

5 years in missions:

On April 2nd it will be 5 years since I left Canada to obey God’s calling on my life to be a missionary. That day I knew that my whole life would be dedicated to obeying Jesus final commission to His followers to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey all that Jesus has commanded.

Little did I know at that time that God had plans to bring me to Taiwan, show me amazing things along the way, lavish me with His great love, and give me so many amazing gifts such as my wife, my soon to be born baby, a beautiful environment to live in and blessings upon blessings every day!

5 years ago and previous to that, I lived a life with a lot of money and did whatever I wanted to do, whenever I wanted. Now, I can say with complete confidence that giving up everything to Jesus and living a life obedient to Him, listening to His plan for my life instead of my own, is far greater, far more joyful, and far more complete of a life than I could ever have imagined having before this!
I want to encourage all those who want to leave everything for Christ but are afraid of the unknown and how things will work out, it is worth the decision. Trust God as He has a very specific and detailed plan for your life and He will bless your obedience. It will be difficult at times, but so so worth it! You cannot out-give God.

I left Canada with nothing and no understanding of how I would pay for daily living but as I had nothing but faith in my bank account, God provided everything I needed. Not only did He provide my needs, but He also gave me so many of my desires. Gosh.. it’s unreal to look back at what He has done in the realm of finances alone.

Thankfulness!:

Which brings me to my next point. As I read Philippians this morning, Paul talks about how the church in Philippi was the only church that partnered with him (Phil 1:5; 4:15) and how thankful he is for their generosity and partnership.

I was so encouraged as I was reminded of you who also have also partnered with me throughout these years in missions and have continued to do so even as I got married and as Amber and I are now soon to have a baby.
Amber and I are so thankful for you and it is real for us each day and every time someone asks: “so what do you do for a living?”. We get to share with them God’s calling and how we don’t have a salary but we live on faith in Jesus.

Thank you for supporting Amber and I.
As Paul says in Phil 1:6:
I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion in the day of Jesus Christ.”

Pregnant!:

Incase you still haven’t heard, Amber and I are pregnant!! We are 12 weeks today and had our first full appointment yesterday which was amazing and the people were great. We are also thankful that now we have a more specific cost for for the whole process which helps us pray more effectively.
I would really like to have a girl, but a boy would be amazing also! We already have names picked out and are so excited!

Chinese Studies:

There has been a recent change in the structure of our Chinese studies and it has helped so much in the learning process! My learning style is a bit different from the average person, so this new style works wonderfully for me.

The trip to the hospital was really encouraging for us also because we were able to practice our Chinese with the nurses since none of them speak English. I was surprised at how much we could communicate with them once we got them talking.

I also just had my English class semester ending party and spent the whole party speaking mainly Chinese which was also a pleasant surprise to me because it didn’t even feel exhausting to be in Chinese mode. I will hopefully be joining a new ministry with the university students next week which should also help me utilize Chinese more often.

Prayer requests:

Amber has been dealing with intense nausea since being pregnant and we are praying that it passes soon so if you could pray with us that would be great. It has been pretty disabling during the past month.
We are hoping to eventually have a small car/van to use after having our baby because we don’t feel comfortable taking a baby on a scooter… many people in Taiwan are fine with this but we just don’t want to take the risk of an accident on the scooter. In light of this, we would also ask if you would please help pray with us for the right vehicle and finances to pay for that in the coming months.

God bless you and please feel free to send us a reply! It’s always encouraging to hear from our friends and family every now and then 🙂

Love is the Answer
Humility is the key
Jesus is the way!
