First update from Nepal – July 11/2014

Headed to Nepal and India

Headed to Nepal and India

My friends and family!

It’s so good to be able to finally write to you about what has been happening in Nepal so far on my missionary trip!
The harvest here is ready and spiritual fruit is growing in full swing! I am so excited to share!
For those of you who don’t know what I am doing, 3 months ago God told me to “Go” on missions, so I sold everything I owned, aside from a few bags of clothing and left home to join YWAM and complete a 3 month discipleship training school (DTS) and 2.5 month outreach which I am currently on right now in Nepal. In a month I will be in India for another 4 weeks also.
I did not have enough money to pay for the DTS or outreach, but God said to go so I listened in faith that He would provide. I was $9000 short of what was required and God, through a miraculous turn of events and through the support of many amazing and willing men and women of God; (a number of yourselves included) the entire $9000 was provided! Just as God said it would be. He says in Matthew 6:33-34 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

As He says, I seek God first over everything and all else is provided. Even the small, silly desires of my heart. (So many testimonies of Gods goodness came from this)

I have been writing a daily journal on this journey which I will share. It will make this a pretty long email FYI so you may want to have a few minutes to read.

Upon arrival to Kathmandu, Nepal, God made it easy to get my visa and find the place where I have been staying. We are working with Iris ministries which is a long term missionary group in Nepal and they are assisting us in translation and showing us places in Nepal for ministry. They are amazing people that are on fire for God and we live in their house of prayer and worship where there is a constant flow of worship and prayer. Sometimes we worship and soak for 5 hours straight.
The spiritual realm is so apparent here and very heavy as there is Idol worship on virtually every corner and you really can’t walk 30 feet without seeing another Idol or temple either on houses, walls, in cars, on the sidewalk, or big temples. God has gifted me with the ability to sense and see spirits since I was young, and I have never seen as much darkness as I see here.
You can visually see the environment change as the Holy Spirit enters a place with us in His Glory.
Nepali people have beautiful smiles and whenever I say hi or Namaste to them, their face brightens and a big smile is plastered on their face. They seem upset when walking around but then that smile comes out and it’s a polar opposite.
I absolutely adore the children here and they all so passionate! They have total respect for their elders and genuine appreciation for the smallest things.
The food is wonderful. It is about $2 for a big plate of chicken chowmein and a pop or bottled water. They have these things called momos that are filled with buffalo meat which is a favorite here. We also eat a lot of mangos.
Now for the traffic…. WOOOW!….. It is absolutely ridiculous. Like I mean scary. Without being here, it’s hard to imagine but I will attempt to explain. I actually fear for my life every time I get in a vehicle and usually I just close my eyes and pray that we make it to our destination. When you want to cross the street, you have to dodge cars. Otherwise you aren’t crossing. On the bright side It’s good practice for dodgeball 😉. There are no lights, rules or speed limits and at intersections you just drive through and hope that people stop before they run into you.
The other day I got in a taxi the size of a VW Beatle with 6 people stuffed on top each other and the cab driver literally had a street race with another taxi to the destination. Picture fast and the furious in New York on a busy day… Anyway I have a couple videos I may post on Facebook later haha..

So far the trip has been an amazing experience and we have seen so many people healed and made whole by prayer and a number of people give their lives to Jesus also. Below is my journal which will describe more of the ministry in detail. I love you all so much and miss you dearly! More updates will be coming and will likely be a bit shorter then this one 🙂. I could not be here if it weren’t for all of your support and your willingness to listen to Gods voice. You are making a big difference in the world and in my life knowing God also! I have no reserves, no regrets, and no retreats here and I am giving all the love that I have to these beautiful children of God.

Day 1
-today my team and I woke up at 6 and went to a place where we help feed the homeless and just love on them. Most of the Nepali people that came spoke zero English and were intoxicated but in need of healing, prayer, food and it was obvious that they needed to be loved.
I talked to some people as much as I able with the language barrier and a translator was sometimes around to help. When the translator wasn’t there, I attempted to communicate though whatever means that I could by gestures and smiles and hugs type I thing.
This one guy Nabin came to me and asked me to pray for his knee so I did and we continued to hang out for a while. I learned some words in Nepali so I could say a few things and get the message that I loved him across and he ended up introducing me to his friends and hanging out for a few hours. They said that I was their big brother and they were my little brothers. I felt so good and just loved them so much. I simply showed them love like a brother and they felt that I was their brother.

During the evening, we went to a orphanage where it was a few of the kids birthdays and we celebrated them, had cake and played with them. Then we went downstairs to worship and pray together and it was so powerful! These children worship with their whole hearts and souls. They cry out to God in authentic Joy and thanks to Him. They went to each other praying for one another and loving everyone.
I put my hand on a girls shoulder and prayed for her and as I did she started crying tears of joy and fell down to her knees worshiping God.
Later, as I was on my knees singing praise; 2 girls came and started praying for me and afterward, one told me that God told her to tell me He is proud of me.
The other girl said that I am a Man after Gods own heart.. This touched me so deeply. I kept worshipping and praying for people and we eventually left more excited for God and life.

Day 2
-this morning we worshipped in the prayer room from 9am-1pm straight which was so awesome!! We just soaked in the spirit and poured out our hearts. It was amazing that Clem, the guy leading was able to sing and play guitar for that long without a break.

-in the evening we again, celebrated 4th of July with worship for a few more hours. Worship is such a great way to recharge your spirit, especially in a place like Nepal where spiritual battles are much more obvious and constant. Also having alone time with God is so important for the body and mind and spirit. One of the most important things to do actually.

Day 3
– Church was very interesting today. There is a witch doctor lady who we see on the road almost every day that we pray for often and buy her something to eat fairly regularly. The first day we saw her, she was very possessed and would barely speak or make eye contact but she would speak out what seemed to be curses. Each day she has changed for the better and now she speaks often words that sound loving, she makes eye contact without hesitation, and even runs to us to hug us when she sees us and asks for prayer.
Today we brought her with us to church which was the first time she has ever been to church. The children looked at her funny but she is getting so much better and I believe Jesus is moving on her heart.

– Later, we soaked in worship for a while and prayed about what God wants us to do during this outreach. We got some words and I am excited to see what happens in the next weeks

Day 4 day off
-today we had a day to ourselves which was fun. We went shopping in Thamel and found some cool things, the bus ride was very scary; then in the evening, Jon and I went for a shave and hair cut with a straight razor. It was interesting! The power went out and it was dark outside so I got my whole head and face done under candle light. Scary also…
The guy gave me a head, face and back massage also and it all only cost $1.
Afterwards, Jon and I prayed for him and his family and to bless his business and though he didn’t understand what we had said, he like it.

Day 5
-wow today was intense. We woke up and went to Joel’s place (Iris missionaries who we partner with)
and we spoke about what this outreach will look like. One of the people on our team got a word from God before we came to Nepal to go to a place called Silla without knowing if it existed or not. After Iris looked into it, they found that there is indeed a small village named that so we will be trekking there on Sunday and get there on Tuesday to share the gospel with people in the village.
This week we are going to temples and worshipping/praying in them to bring the spirit of God there and minister to people. God put it on my heart to read the entire bible out loud in the city so every day for an hour each morning we will break into 8 groups of 2 and read the entire bible out loud in the city.
I was told that when we read Gods word, things come alive. God is going to make this city come alive and fruit will be produced.

Today after meeting with Iris, we went to the streets to pray for people and headed toward the temple. We were stopped shortly after leaving and many people started to gather around us as we prayed for a mans ankle to be healed. I didn’t see the result of that as I was pulled away by a man asking about Jesus and spent some time speaking with him as well as blessing his business. He wants to come to our church on Saturday praise God! Please pray for this man Dilip, to give his life to Jesus.

After this, Jon and I prayed for many other people to be healed of neck pains, stomach pains/back, addictions to be gone, and a hurt knee that was hurt for 3 years.
EVERY ONE OF THESE WERE HEALED! People were leaving with huge smiles on their faces and pain free. One man said he felt a sense of being light and was very near tears.
Many of them asked if they could come to our church to which we replied of course! The woman whose leg that was hurt for 3 years said it had no pain anymore and called her daughter to come to be prayed for and healed also.

Then we walked to the temple… I have never experienced a more dark place. I would not even take pictures as I did not want to give the demons any attention. God gave me the ability to see spiritual presence in a place or on people long ago and this is a place where it was obvious to even spiritually apathetic people.
I sang praise, prayed, and prayed for people in the temple square to be healed and give their lives to God and we saw fruit. Lots of fruit! A mother and son who seemed possessed both gave their lives to Jesus and the change on their faces and hearts was so strong. The smallest bit of light in this dark place changed the atmosphere in a strong way. There are so many stories just in the small bit of the day but I won’t tell them all now.

This evening I put together the bible reading plan and we played soccer with some kids from around our house.

Day 6
– today we went to the streets to minister to others and share about Jesus. The first thing we did is break into our groups and read out sections of the bible out loud in the street for an hour.
Crowds gathered around some of our groups to listen and receive prayer for different things. During my hour of reading, I had no partner as there weren’t enough people but it still worked out well. One man came and listened for a while, then I gave him a Nepali bible and he stayed and read the Nepali bible with me at the same time. Before he left, he asked if he could buy my bible from me too because he wanted to read in English also. I wasn’t finished my hour of reading so I said if he wants to wait 15 minutes while I continue reading, he can have it. He stayed and then I gave him my bible and prayed for him. He seemed overjoyed.
After that, we gathered together again with iris and we broke into bigger groups and went out to pray for people and bless them in any ways we could. Then later, we all sat on the side of the street and worshipped Jesus which brought big crowds to watch and listen. I felt the Holy Spirit resting on us while we sang. It is a wonderful feeling to love Jesus publicly

Day 7
-today was a bit more relaxing. We worshipped for about 4 hours in the morning in preparation for most of my team going to Pashupatinath, a very dark Hindu holy place where they burn the dead and bring people who are almost dead to wait for death.
3 of us, myself included; stayed back and interceded for the team. We prayed for words of wisdom and God spoke clear words to me of what to pray about and gave me a verse about them that was very relevant. I didn’t know what it said before looking it up but when I did, it made a lot of sense for the place they went to. The verse was Romans 6:8-9.
In the evening we got together as a team and prayed for people back in Canada and the US.

Day 8
-today we all went to the banquet house again and helped feed and minister to the homeless. I spent most of the time there doing first aid wound care, cleaning and bandaging wounds. It is sad to see some of the people here because many of them often cut themselves for various reasons but usually to look tough in front of other people but sometimes for idol worship rituals. Another reason one of the boys told me was because he was in jail and if they are wounded then they get taken out of jail to the hospital so they cut themselves for that also.
One man today had sliced his ears half way down all the way through and it was getting infected…
I bandaged the people up and prayed for healing of their wounds and healing of personal self esteem that they wouldn’t feel the need to cause self inflicted wounds.
Thank you so much everyone for all your support and prayers!! It has made a huge difference and continues to do so! We will be leaving on a week long trek to the village Silla and have no idea what to expect there so please keep me and my team in your prayers for victory with the people we meet. You are also in my prayers!!
If you would like to respond, please feel free to do so! I love hearing about what’s happening there and specific things we can pray for at home too and in your personal lives! Also if you get any words from God about my team or encouragements, I would love very much to hear about them. Perhaps you may get a word about a specific person here we are supposed to meet. Devine encounters would be amazing. I may not be able to reply right away but I will do my best when I am around internet.
